CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR
VETERAN VOLUNTEERS OF THE YEAR 2010-11
Thomas Bennett and Mary Carol Cole

The following is something to think about...
WHEN A SOLDIER COMES  HOME
"This email is  being circulated around the world -

When a soldier comes home, he  finds it hard....
..to  listen to his son whine about being  bored.

....to keep a straight face  when people complain about  potholes.

to be tolerant of people who complain about the  hassle of getting ready
for  work.

...to be understanding when a  co-worker complains about a bad night's
sleep.

..to be silent when people  pray to God for a new  car.

....to control his panic when  his wife tells him he needs to drive
slower.

..to be compassionate when a businessman expresses a fear of  flying.

....to keep from laughing  when anxious parents say they're afraid  to
send their  kids off to summer  camp.

....to keep from ridiculing  someone who complains about hot  weather.

....to control his  frustration when a colleague gripes about his  coffee
being  cold.

....to remain calm when his  daughter complains about having to walk the
dog.

.....to be civil to people  who complain about their  jobs.

.....to just walk away when  someone says they only get two weeks of
vacation  a  year.

....to be forgiving when  someone says how hard it is to have a new baby
in the house.

The  only thing harder than being a  Soldier...

Is loving  one."

FRANKFORT ELKS LODGE  #530

"Remembering our Soldiers"

Frankfort Lodge #530 recently provided lodging for Scot King, Portland, Oregon Elk and former Marine Corporal and President and Founder of "Remember the Wounded Ride" who is currently on the first leg of a 48 state bicycle trek to raise awareness and funds for our military personnel wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families. Scot is requesting a state flag from each Capitol . These flags will be brought back to Portland, OR where they will be presented in the Veterans Coliseum during a special ceremony on Veterans Day 2013. Each flag will represent the combat wounded veterans of its respective state and their service to our country and will be continuously flown for an entire year. Scot stopped in Frankfort on August 20th and was presented a Kentucky State Flag from Col Benjamin Adams, KYARNG along with well wishes from Elks PJ Johnson, Bill & Sandy Moore, Terry LaFontaine, Gus Petro and Susie McDaniel.

                                     KENTUCKY ELKS SUPPORT  OUR VETERANS

The following is a thumbnail history of WWSC's in the Dept of the Army.

Following the public embarrassment of the poor quality of support of soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center while they were waiting reassignment to Line military organizations, the Army established the requirement for all posts that had major medical treatment centers, would also have a Wounded Warrior unit of assignment for those not in patient status but not returned to full duty in a military occupational specialty.  At Ft. Knox that unit is a Battalion, commanded by line officer in the grade of Lt Colonel.

Aditionally, a Support Center will be established to fuse the coordination of followup medical and other care for the soldier and his family, if required, prior to his return to his military occupational specialty before injury or reclassification into another MOS.

The Support Center needs financial support for sundries for soldiers and families visiting the Support Center while they attend appointments at the Support Center or have needs not met by appropriated funds.

The Battalion for wounded warriors has a population of 300 and it cycles about every 90 days, its entire population.  The Support Center requires substantial and continuing financial support.  The Dept of the Army has established a WW 501 C3 charity at Army level. Donations are transmitted to the DA Charity to an account from which the Ft Knox WWSC may draw via credit card....

                                           Will you donate?

Fellow Elks
Please take time to remember our veterans.  We should also, remember our brave young soldiers who are currently protecting us near and far.
I came accross this website sponsered by Zerox and is in no way affiliated with the B.P.O.E. but still is doing something we can support.
