Ashland Elks Lodge #350 recently partnered with the 2nd Annual Ashland Build-a-Bed Project to help build 100 beds. Along with 222 other volunteers, several Elks members joined in to construct the beds, which are given to school-aged children who are forced to sleep on floors, couches, or in beds with multiple children or family members.
The project is a regional effort spearheaded by Morehead State University, and has provided over 1,000 beds to needy children in Eastern Kentucky since 2010. The Ashland committee’s goal was to build 100 beds this year in addition to the goal of 200 beds set by the MSU Americorps Program.
The beds will be distributed throughout the FIVCO area, which includes Boyd, Carter, Lawrence, Greenup, and Elliot counties.
